The 10 sustainable resolutions that we plan to carry out in 2019. Following just one of these recommendations will make a difference.
1. Walk to work
It’s better for both the environment and your wallet, so try to reduce your transport footprint this year by walking to work, cycling short distances or taking public transport.
2. Switch to fair trade
For your regular food purchases look out for the FAIRTRADE Mark, a registered certification label for products sourced from producers in developing countries.
3. Say no to single-use
Banish single-use plastics for 2019 once and for all. Invest in reusable water bottles and coffee cups, and next time you order a drink in a restaurant, ask to hold the straw.
4. Do meat free Monday
Launched by Paul, Mary and Stella McCartney in 2009, Meat Free Monday aims to raise awareness of the environmental impact of eating meat. Swapping one meal a week to a meat or dairy free option is a great place to start.
5. Remember to reuse
Remembering to take your own bag to the shops is one of the most effective ways to reduce your carbon footprint – as well as saving you those 5ps that add up throughout the year.
6. Read online
Your favourite books, magazines and newspapers are all available online or on your iPhone – it’s cheaper and saves on paper.
7. Opt for eco-friendly periods
Check out THINX underwear, that replace pads and liners that you can rinse, wash and reuse.
8. Take a fast fashion break
9. Rent your wardrobe
Look to rent clothing for occasions, rather than buying something you will only wear once. Join our collective of forward-thinking women who agree renting makes economic and environmental sense.
