Our CEO’s Ultimate Packing List for Sustainable Travel
Summer, is that you? It might be December – but it’s also the time we’re sat at our desks, planning our next big trips.
With the number one reason for renting being ‘Holidays’, it’s been fascinating to watch the shift in our community from the last minute high-street binge to a more thoughtful approach to what we wear on holiday. It’s easy to forget about sustainability when you’re about to go away, so the more organised you can be the better.
Here are some of the pieces I love to pack:
1. Travel Outfit
I always pack an extra-warm jumper for the flight. Enter my new favourite brand: Sheep Inc. The jumpers are beyond comfortable. Pro tip: Pack the scarf or shawl in your handbag which doubles as a blanket on a cold flight.
2. Reusable Bottle

Did you know less than 1% of plastic is recycled more than once!! 😰 so here are 3 reasons not to use plastic bottles: 1) Outer layers of reusable and disposable plastic bottles break down after repeated use or long periods and can expose your drink to harmful chemicals 2) Microplastics (<5mm) were present in 93% of popular branded bottled water (yum) 3) Most are made from PET, a material once considered safe but has recently shown to leak trioxide and phthalate; chemicals that can lead to respiratory problems and considered to be a carcinogen! All plastic containers and bottles are marked with a recycle code, if you see a 3 or 7 the product could contain BPA and 1 means it has been made from PET; so please check! or.. you know you could buy a steel or glass bottle instead😜
Why is it that when we go on holiday we forget to say no to single use plastic bottles? Enter Ocean bottle: each bottle purchased funds the collection of 1000 plastic bottles worth of ocean-bound plastic.
3. Chemical-free Suncream
I’d recommend REN Skincare’s Clean Screen Mineral SPF. It’s chemical free, plant-based and uses 50% recycled plastic packaging that can be recycled again and again. The cream absorbs really quickly and contains a broad spectrum of UVA/UVB and blue light protection.
4. The Washbag
Washbags last for decades and this one shouldn’t be missed. OneNine5, have designed eco-friendly washbags made from 100% recycled plastic. It can be recycled after use and includes a detachable clear bag so you don’t need to use any plastic bags going through security.
5. Rented Outfits
When I’m travelling, I like any dress that’s comfortable and doesn’t need an iron. My go-to rental brands include Innika Choo, Ganni and Zimmermann. My favourite piece this year has been this yellow pinstripe Ganni dress. I’ve rented it three times – throw it on and instantly look polished.
Top tip: Pack a travel steamer that fits in your hand luggage.
6. The Perfect Accessory
No two Nannacay bags are the same, each is handmade so you know your accessory will be unique. Giving the traditional straw bag a modern update, the bags are made by a local community in Peru, bridging the gap between those in need and people able to help.
7. Comfy Trainers
Obsessed with Allbirds? Join the club. Sustainability is central to the brand’s identity and its goal is to use only renewable materials in the production of its shoes. According to Allbirds, the manufacturing process used to make the Wool Runners consumes 60 per cent less energy than conventional trainers.
8. Reusable Straws
Sucka Straws come in a range of metallic colours and are my favourite plastic free, reusable straws. Reasonably priced, you can purchase one for £1.99 each or three for £9.99 with a reusable linen bag.
9. The Sustainable T-Shirt

10. That Something Special
Kimaï is my go-to jewellery brand for eco-friendly lab grown diamonds, gold and fairtrade materials. Definitely investment pieces but it’s true: lab-grown diamonds really are a girl’s best friend!
