Going Out Dresses: Rotate Birger Christensen

How to Wear Going Out Dresses During the Day

Street style at Copenhagen Fashion Week is always our favourite, but this year it’s even better. Why? This year, Copenhagen Fashion Week has been declared “fashion’s sustainability capital” by the Business of Fashion, so all eyes have been on the Scandi city for exciting reasons related to positive fashion change. The attention isn’t not new, actually, because Copenhagen has been home to some of fashion’s favourite brands, including Ganni and Stine Goya. Street style stars flock to cult items from these out-of-box, yet perfectly on trend designers. And the icing on the cake is that all of them must now qualify to keep their spot among the shows. With the excitement of sustainability and Scandi design, the street style outfits have been in a new category this year, including a mix of some “old season” pieces too.

But one of our favourite things about Scandi street style are the styling tricks we’ve picked up over the years, and this season there was one we absolutely adore. Wearing big boots with anything and everything. We’ve spotted this trend for a while, but seeing it still reign again this Copenhagen Fashion Week has inspired us because we’ve realised it the greatest way to extend the life of a rental. For example, if you rented a piece for a birthday party on a Saturday but still have it for a few more days, why not wear it to work with…yup, big old boots? Keep scrolling to see how we’d style the different going out dresses during the day with boots and to rent our edit.

This style trick is as easy as it sounds. Add boots, big ones. The style set are loving big ol’ boots at the minute and we know you have a pair of Docs somewhere in your closet. Together, fancy dress + big boots, the outfit is magic.

Puff-sleeve dresses, like pieces from ROTATE Birger Christensen or Cecilie Bahnsen have been the go-to silhouette, but we reckon this works for just about any style.

One of our favourite HURR Girls, Daisy Murray, is a big fan of this silhouette. Here she pairs the Cecilie Bahnsen dress she’s lending on HURR with platform Doc Martens.

Of course, if the BIG boots are a little too, well big, going for a white heeled boots like Monikh works too. It’s a bit more classic. But if you’re feeling more trend-driven, why not go for it with a big ol’ pair?
